Safer Birth Options

Ohio Families for Safe Birth is a consumer-driven effort to create a
statewide coalition promoting policies and legislation which support
families' access to safe, appropriate, evidence-based care during
pregnancy, labor and birth. Our goals include:
* Supporting legislation that licenses Certified Professional Midwives
(CPMs) in Ohio
* Raising awareness and support for families choosing an out-of
hospital-birth as a safe, appropriate option
* Supporting safe family and baby initiatives in all birth settings

A MATERNITY CARE CRISIS IS BREWING IN OHIO
It is no longer possible to quietly settle for the status quo of
unregulated midwives in an "a legal" state. If we do not take action to
change Ohio law, our midwives will be forced underground and eventually out
of practice one by one. The American Medical Association's Scope of
Practice Partnership (SOPP) calls on state medical boards to aggressively
pursue allied health care professionals whose actions they consider to
constitute the practice of medicine. The state of Ohio has already
begun their agenda of elimination of these trained professionals, starting
in Butler County. Join us in ensuring that Ohio families have access
to Certified Professional Midwives, providers who are essential to a
robust maternity care system.

Please pass this information along to anyone, past and present clients, who is interested in bringing safer birthing options to Ohio. We hope to see lots of you there!
