I began as a doula and then had the opportunity to doula for a homebirth. Night and day experiences to my personal births and to those that I had attended. From there I was offered an apprenticship and I am on my way to becoming a midwife. (Certified Professional Midwife) I encourage all women to explore their options, birth really doesn't have to be the scary thing that our society paints it to be.
A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. It is book on a child soldier, from Sierra Leone. Some friends and I are starting a book club and reading it all together. I have seen several shows on this and it just breaks my heart. If you are interested in this, and you want to buy it from Starbucks, they donate $2.00 per book to UNICEF. I have been a SAHM since 1999. Now that my kids are of school age, I have decided what I want to do when I grow up! I love being a mother and wife, and owner to my two furry friends, Duchess and Kane, our mastiffs. My goal is to educate women and their families that birth doesn't have to be medicalized or scary and you do have choices. I love what I do!
